No-See-Ums

A  few suggestions to deal with the No-See-Um problem.

Normal spaced screen mesh keep out flies and mosquitoes. This size gives the best balance between protection and still leaving enough space for air to circulate. No-see-ums are so small that they get through normal screens.

Blessedly, I have not had the personal experience of clouds of no see ums that my southern boater friends describe so have not tested in the field screens to guard against these annoying creatures.

But here is an idea to use my screens to combat those pesky hoards of No-See-Ums

Using regular nylon window screen that can be obtained at the hardware store

I would cut the screen about ¾ inch bigger then the frames. Cut it on the bias, so that the two screen patterns run diagonally against each other forming a smaller hole.

Hold it tight against the screen and install the screen normally so that the nylon screen is held in by the frame. You can trim off the excess if you want.

It might be better to get the no-see-um screen that is made for light weight tents. It has a finer mesh but I think it would limit the amount of air flow. Compromises!

Let me know what you come up with.
